Strategies to Increase Access

Strategies to increase access to technology for all students and all teachers.
Equity issues
  • The technology department meets with the Special Education department annually to discuss ways of implementing technology to special needs students and staff.
  • The technology staff works with the Special Education staff to meet the needs of special needs students, including the implementation of voice input.
  • The technology department meets with the Alternative Education department annually to discuss ways of implementing and enhancing technology offerings to students and staff.

Steps that have been taken and will be sustained in order to assure that all teachers and students have increased and sustained access to technology.
  • All teachers have a teacher workstation.
  • Elementary classroomshavetechnology centers consisting of 2 - 4 computers connected to the Internet.
  • Many high school classrooms adjoin a mini-lab.
  • Both Elementarieshave a computer lab which is scheduled by the teachers.
  • The high school and middle school have multiple labs which are scheduled by teachers.
  • Additional technologies and computer labs (static and wireless) are scheduled to be purchased during the course of this technology plan.
  • Computers are available for all students and teachers in each building’s media center.

Technologies continue to be replaced as they reach an age where they can no longer meet the needs of the students/teachers.
Technology replacement/upgrades are determined based on use of technology during course of life cycle, degree to which particular technology meets curricular needs, age of technology, and cost of support vs. to replace (warrantee and TCO models).
